Versioning of documents

netfiles supports you in working together on documents with comprehensive document management functions.

When editing Office documents or text documents online, the “Edit” feature automatically creates a temporary working copy (“check-out”). For documents created locally on your PC, you can activate versioning for a document by “uploading” a file of the same name or using the “upload new version” feature.

In the file overview of a folder, users with edeting and download rights will now see a corresponding icon (e.g. V 03) next to the file name.

During editing, the temporary working copy is write-protected against accidental editing by users other than the version owner. Click on the “Version icon” or on “Working copy” to switch to the version history of a document.

If you want the online modified working copy or the working copy uploaded as a “new version” to be released for all other users, select the “Check in” feature.

Users with the right to make changes can continue working on the updated document. Users without the right to make changes are now only provided with this latest version.
In addition to the procedure described above, the “Status” is also available in the “Properties” dialog for a document:

  • Set the status to “lock for edeting” to create a working copy and mark the document (“check-out”).
  • The status “protected” (write protection) prevents any changes to the document, even by users with the right to make changes.
